On 13th July 1960, fifteen and sixteen year old boys commenced training in HMAS Leeuwin (Junior Recruit Training Establishment JRTE) on the banks of the Swan River, Fremantle Western Australia. Almost 13000 boys were to be trained under this training scheme from 1960 to 1984. HMAS Leeuwin carried on the proud traditions of training boy sailors for the Royal Australian Navy from HMAS Tingira 1912-1927.
This site is dedicated to the 182 boys that graduated from the 12th Intake of Junior Recruits, 14 July 1965 to 8 June 1966, going on to start their Naval careers as Ordinary Seaman serving with the Fleet of the Royal Australian Navy.
